Creating a successful career is not always achieved via the most obvious routes. Susan White is the Voice Coach for the architects Terry Farrell & Partners. Why does an architect need a Voice Coach? “Architects have to present in a visually dramatic way. In order to get that far, they have to be able to inspire through conceptual explanations. A few are brilliant at this, but many are not and find it a strain. It is really about the art of persuasion.” Apart from Farrell's, Susan coaches interior designers, graphic designers and those in the property industry, as well as working on a charitable basis for the Royal National Institute of the Blind.

Susan is TEFL-trained to Teach English as a Foreign Language and has a diploma in psychotherapy. She also attends many drama workshops and is currently studying the Licentiate Teaching Diploma at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In the 1980s she worked for a communications agency before becoming self-employed. “
In February 2000 I asked myself why didn’t I bring what I really enjoy central to my life?”. She has combined her passion for the spoken word with her teaching, therapy and communication skills to create a reputation as a Voice Coach. “The key to creating your own niche is to think about what you want to do and ask, ‘Will this benefit other people?’ If the answer is ‘yes’, then just go ahead”.
